Geoffrey Orley and Bahram Shabahang first met in the bazaars of Isfahan in 1971. Geoff was visiting as a traveler, a lover of Persian textiles and carpets in particular. Bahram happened to be working at his family's storefront and had the collecting of carpets in his family dating back to when a forebear of his family served as carpet finder for a king of the Safavid dynasty. Through their shared passion for finely-crafted beautiful carpets, a lifelong friendship was born. When Bahram reconnected with Geoff two years later in the U.S. they began selling carpets together and it wasn't long until Bahram founded the Whitefish Bay location of Shabahang Persian Carpets, the company which became Orley Shabahang. Now we are creating our own heirloom pieces in the traditional manner, using only organic materials and performing every part of the process by hand, and Orley Shabahang is thrilled to have a location in the Third Ward, in the heart of thriving downtown Milwaukee.
