In 1980 we were approached by a world renown Oriental rug dealer in San Francisco, who informed us that Bay Area dealers and collectors had no one who could be trusted to clean valuable rugs. We began our work at that time with eight local Oriental rug galleries who were seeking a reliable service. Our approach was to separate ourselves from wall-to-wall carpet cleaning entirely – and instead adopt museum textile conservation techniques. We belong to many textile conservation organizations and have been in the forefront of developing the science and practical application of cleaning and repairing area rugs. Talisman is egalitarian in its rates and practices – serving both local homeowners as well as collectors and museums throughout the country.
