In 1972, Murray Abrams founded Guardian Maintenance, Inc., a commercial cleaning services company, known as GMI. By 1982, he had established Guard Management, Inc., which offered security services to compliment GMI's growing janitorial client base. Murray Abrams' son, Larry Abrams, purchased both the GMI Guard Management and GMI Building Service branches from his father, allowing Murray the opportunity to retire. Then in 1994, Barry Williams joined the GMI family as the Chief Financial Officer, implementing more sophisticated financial operations, which are thriving at GMI today. Shareholder partner and Chief Operating Officer, Ben Cordova, was brought onto the GMI team in 2000, bringing extensive expertise and operational skill to the company. GMI was the first commercial cleaning company in California to be certified in the innovative operational cleaning process, ManageMen Operating System 1 (OS1)® in 2003, and has since developed and launched the CARe™ Technology program.
